The Department of Parasitology and Mycology was established in 1996 to teach and conduct research in all aspects of Medical Mycology and Parasitiology at the School of Medicine, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. The curriculum of the department is updated and designed to meet the demands of post-graduate teaching and research on present problems of the region.

The Department provides teaching on all aspects of Parasitology and Mycology to postgraduate and undergraduate Medical and dentistry students and fellows . The Department is also dealing with program for postgraduate students progressing towards PhD degree in Parasitology. The research activities of the department are varied and range from routine method through population-based epidemiology, to basic research on diagnostic, pathogenesis and molecular aspects of parasites and fungi as well as clinical trials on new drugs and vaccines.

The Department also offers state-of-the-art diagnostic services. As an innovation driven team, we are able to offer the full range of high quality parasitology and mycology services from routine cultures to molecular typing of organisms. New assays are continually being developed by our medical and scientific staff in response to clinical and research needs.
