Welcome to the Department of Medical Physics at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. As the Dean of Department, I am proud of our nationally and internationally recognized programs of study in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. I believe that what makes our programs standout is the highly qualified Department members graduated from all around the world and exceptionally talented students in our Department. Our Department members are committed to teaching excellence and conducting state-of-the-art research activities.  The programs we offer lead to fully accredited Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science in various disciplines of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering.

From a practical point of view, Medical Physicists and Biomedical Engineers have proven to play a significant role in today’s society.  They do this by improving the quality of our day-to-day lives.  In addition, these highly respected Physicist and engineers create wealth through the products that they design for the medical industry.  All one has to do is to look at the hospitals, physicians’ offices, or medical centers all around the world to see the large impact they have had on our economy and health through designing novel equipment, materials, and devices.

The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering prepares its students for the creation, application, and management of medical technology through rigorous and up-to-date curricula and teaching methods. Its graduates go on to leadership roles in hospital and industry, for which creativity, rigorous quantitative thinking, effective communication skills, and a strong commitment to human values are essential.

Teaching and learning at this Department are enhanced by our research facilities and international publication rate which has an impact in all branches of medical and engineering. Our research has a practical medical purpose and we have developed strong linkages with medical industry both nationally and internationally. These links lead to excellent employment opportunities for our graduates as well as creating placements for students.
